A midnight fire razed a mechanic workshop on Lawan Dambazau Road in Kano, Kano State, destroying more than 10 cars and furniture worth millions of naira.
A victim, Aminu Ibrahim, a mechanic, said security guards at the garage said the fire started around 2am from a faulty electrical socket in the carpenters’ section of the workshop.

He said some of the affected cars were imported and brought to the workshop for minor repairs.
A carpenter at the workshop, Malam Buhari Badamasi, said they spent almost a week without power supply until Monday when it was restored.
Spokesman of the state’s fire service, Alhaji Saminu Yusuf, who confirmed the incident, said firefighters moved to the scene and put out the fire.
