He said, “It started after 10am as I was coming out. I saw people shouting ‘fire fire’. In less than an hour, the fire razed the building. The fire extinguisher wasn’t working. I was told the fire service didn’t turn up on time. We helped them to save some of their goods.”

The spokesman of the fire service, Saminu Abdullahi Yusuf, said, “We received a call around 11am that there was an incident at Vava Furniture.

“Our men arrived immediately and found the premises on fire. We tried to quench the fire and some things were saved.

“We are suspecting that the fire emanated from electric appliances even though investigation is ongoing.’’
