Speaking to journalists on the incident, the chairman of the market, Alhaji Auwalu Ahmad Shinkafi, said though the losses could not be ascertained now, four shops were torched.

Alhaji Auwalu said, “The fire is suspected to be as a result of electrical fault. We don’t know the amount of money lost, but we are talking of millions, and we will let you know when we get the exact amount.

“We called the fire service and other authorities involved and they gave us maximum cooperation to control the situation.”

Confirming the incident, the spokesman of the Kano State fire service, Saminu Yusuf Abdullahi, said fire fighters arrived at the scene immediately they received a call and that they were able to control the fire.
