Fire outbreak destroys N89.7m property

A fire outbreak in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, has destroyed property worth over N89.7 million.

The incident, which occurred on Thursday night, razed six shops at the popular Oja Tuntun Market, Baboko area, Ilorin.

Spokesman of the Kwara State Fire Service, Hassan Adekunle, who confirmed the incident yesterday, said the prompt intervention of the firemen stopped the ravaging fire from spreading to other shops in the market.

“The fire outbreak which was reported on Thursday, 20th April 2023, at about 19:22hours was subdued by the fire crew before it spread to other areas.

Out of 1,070 lockup shops, six shops were affected with total estimated property saved put at N2.6bn while the total estimated property lost is N89.7m,” he added.
