A fire has razed down a 14-room hostel block at the Tsangaya Model Boarding Primary School in Kanwa, Madobi LGA of Kano State.

The Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Dr Saleh Jili, confirmed the incident while giving relief materials to the school.

He said, “We are here on behalf of Governor Abdullahi Ganduje to sympathise with the school and donate relief materials with the hope that the gesture would bring relief to them.”

Jili explained that the materials included 20 bags of maize, 20 bags of rice, two bags of salt, seasoning cubes, vegetable oil, 212 blankets and 212 mosquito nets.

He urged the public, especially women using firewood, gas and charcoal, to handle fire with care and always switch off electrical appliances whenever they were going out or going to bed.

On his part, the Chairman of the Kano State Qur’anic, Islamiyya and Tsangaya Schools’ Board, Gwani Yahuza Danzarga, commended Gov Ganduje and the agency for the materials.

He said, “We thank Almighty God that out of the 211 students we have in the school no one was injured.

“The incident happened when the students were in evening class. All the 14 rooms in their hostel were razed down.”

The Village Head of Kanwa, Alhaji Isyaku Maitama, who was represented by Umar Maitama, commended the agency for the gesture.
