The newly built petrol station at Igbalaye area, near Oke-Fia in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, was gutted by fire on Saturday evening.
The inferno caused panic in the busy area as residents and passers-by ran for safety.
The timely intervention of the Osun State Fire Service prevented the fire from spreading to residential buildings, shops and offices in the area, it was gathered.
The state governor, Mr Gboyega Oyetola, visited the scene for an on-the-spot assessment.
Oyetola commended the state fire service for responding to the incident on time and for curtailing the fire.
The governor said, “the strength, capacity and efficiency of our fire fighters were put to test. I am happy, they lived up to expectation as they put out the raging fire.”
