Fire guts NYSC office in Benin

The secretariat of the National Youth Service Corps in Benin, Edo State, was on Saturday partially destroyed by fire.

It was gathered that the fire which started about 3 pm, completely burnt a store containing hundreds of unused mattresses,  chairs and  offices containing files and office equipment. It was gathered that  the ‎fire spilled over from a nearby building where a refuse dump had been set alight and left unattended to. The building and the NYSC secretariat were separated by a perimeter fence.

A source said it took the intervention of the fire service from the state government and the Nigerian Air Force to put out the fire before it could spread to the finance and accounts units.

The NYSC Public Relations Officer, Mr. Benjamin Esan, said the management was yet to get details on the circumstances surrounding the fire.
