Fire destroys N4.6m property in Kwara

Fire has gutted a block of eight shops and destroyed several other properties estimated at N4.6 million on Saturday in Ilọrin, the Kwara State capital.

The incident occurred at No. 48 Basin Road, opposite CAC Church, Ilorin South LGA.

The spokesperson of the fire service, Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, who confirmed the incident, said upon arrival at the scene, the firemen encountered a fierce blaze which engulfed the eight shops resulting in damage to two of them.

According to him, the fire was brought under control around 2.20am.

“Director of the fire service, Prince Falade John, advises the public to diligently switch off their appliances when not in use, emphasising the importance of preventive measures,” he added.
