Fire destroys 31 shops at Gumi Market Kaduna

A total of 31 shops and food items worth millions of Naira were, on Wednesday, completely razed down by fire at Shaikh Gumi Market, Bakin Dogo area of Kaduna State.

It was gathered that the fire started around 2:am on Wednesday when most of the shop owners were at home, except for the local guards who were at the market.

Details of the cause of the fire remained unknown but traders attributed it to electrical fault.

The fire affected mostly cassava and maize flour ‎sellers along Birnin Kudu road, Bakin Dogo Area of the market.

When our reporter visited the scene, sympathisers and shop owners were seen in groups discussing the incident.

The Chairman of the cassava seller at Bakin Dogo, Alfa Husaini, said the traders needed assistance.

“We lost a lot in the fire, only God can help us because we don’t even know where to start from. ‎31 shops were affected and you can see most of the owners are women”, he said.

He called on the state Government to come to their aid.
