An early-morning fire at the Ultimate Plaza on Broad Street, Lagos yesterday consumed goods worth millions of naira.
Witnesses said the fire started at about 8:30am after a power surge on the third floor.
Traders were seen lamenting the loss when Daily Trust visited the scene while the General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA), Michael Akindele, said personnel of the agency moved in quickly after receiving a distress call.
“We were supported by the Federal Fire Service, fire service units of Union Bank, UBA and others to put out the fire around 2:14 pm”, he said.
He added that preliminary investigations showed that the fire was as a result of an electrical surge but that further investigations would be carried out.
