Fire claims two siblings in Bauchi

Two siblings, Zainab Bashir Muhammad and Ummu Salma Bashir, who were between the ages of seven and five, have died in a fire accident that destroyed their home in Bauchi’s Madina Quarters Sunday.

A witness, Kabiru Sani, told Daily Trust that the fire occurred around 11am on Sunday at a house close to Barden Gabas Primary School, adjacent to Tirwun Quarters in the metropolis of Bauchi.

Sani explained that the fire started after the mother of the two deceased children locked them in the house and went to a market to purchase some items.

“When we noticed the incident, myself and some neighbours rushed to the house, but our efforts to forcefully open the gate into the house were unsuccessful. We were able to get rid of the door with the use of some carpentry tools and gained entry into the house, but that was after the two kids had died,” Sani said.

Usman Abdullahi (Dan Usmanu) said the cause of the fire was not known as of the time of talking to our correspondent yesterday.

The deceased had been buried according to Islamic rites.
