Adamawa State governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, yesterday knocked All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates in the state for allegedly turning the federal government’s social investment schemes into campaign tools.
Fintiri, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governor, said opposition politicians who facilitated the empowerment schemes, were using such to score cheap political gains.
The governor, in a statement by his media aide, Humwashi Wonosikou, yesterday, said these schemes were meant to cover every Nigerian citizen irrespective of political inclination.
He noted that playing politics with such important poverty alleviation programmes was an aberration that is unacceptable and untenable in saner climes.
“Every responsible government has a social responsibility to ensure the well-being of its citizens and that’s what we have sworn to do and are doing in Adamawa. Failure to uphold this sacred responsibility is not only fatal but self-defeatist,” he said.
