Former Super Eagles midfielder Finidi George, his technical team and other Enyimba employees may lose their jobs as a result of a decision from the club’s new sporting director.
Ifeanyi Ekwueme, the club’s newly hired Sporting Director, issued a memo that might mean disaster for Finidi and other staff.
Ekwueme urged all management, personnel, and technical crew members of Enyimba FC’s first and second teams to apply for reabsorption into their positions.
The sporting director, who acted on behalf of the new Chairman, Kanu Nwankwo, gave the parties involved a 48-hour ultimatum.
“The management, staff and technical crew of Enyimba first and second teams are hereby instructed to re-apply for their positions with immediate effect.
“Application for re-absorption into Enyimba Management…” An internal memo to that effect reads: “To all the management, staff and technical crew of Enyimba FC 1 and 2nd teams. You are hereby instructed by this notice to re-apply for your positions in the club with immediate effect.
“Note: all applications should be submitted to the club manager within 48 hours. Thanks for your usual corporation,” the letter stated.
After the Aba Millionaires had a successful Super 6 campaign in Lagos last month, Finidi guided them to a record-breaking ninth NPFL championship.
In 2021, the former Ajax and Super Eagles winger was appointed manager of the People’s Elephant.
Two years later, following an undefeated streak in the season’s championship game, the Super 6, he guided the team to the League title.
Less than four weeks after the incredible accomplishment, Finidi and his team in Aba are in danger of losing their jobs.
Just days after being named the new football director of the Aba Millionaires, Ekwueme lost no time in making his presence known at the team.
The former Nigeria international was appointed by another former international, Kanu, who was named as Enyimba’s new chairman by the Abia State government led by Governor Alex Otti.
