A former international, Finidi George, is highly favoured to be appointed as the substantive coach of the Super Eagles.
Daily Trust has gathered from reliable sources that those who are assigned the responsibility of replacing Jose Peseiro with a new coach have found the former Ajax of Amsterdam attacking winger the most suitable candidate for the plum job.
It will be recalled that following the departure of Peseiro at the end of the 2023 AFCON, the NFF appointed George in acting capacity and he took charge of Super Eagles two friendlies with the Black Stars of Ghana and Mali.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t an impressive outing for the Enyimba FC coach as he lost 2-0 to Mali after a 2-1 win over rivals the Black Stars of Ghana in the first match.

Consequently, many felt he had failed to help his ambition but all that may count for nothing as he may be announced the new coach of the senior national team in a few days.
According to one of the sources who spoke to our reporter on condition of anonymity, Finidi is the most level headed among the indigenous coaches that have applied for the job.
Furthermore, he recently served as assistant to Peseiro which has kept him up to date with the present Super Eagles players.
“From all indications, Finidi George is the next coach of the Super Eagles. He is calm and less problematic. Emmanuel Amunike and Dan Amokachi are not in this.
“NFF will soon announce a new coach for the Super Eagles and barring last minute changes, it will be Findi George,” said our source.
