The governor of Ebonyi state and Chairman of the South East governor’s Forum, David Umahi has been officially been admitted as member of the ruling All Progressives Congress, (APC) alongside his deputy, Barr. Kelechi Igwe and some members of the state executive council.
Umahi was formerly admitted by the Chairman, National Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) Mai Mala Buni on Wednesday night after he denounced his membership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

The event was honoured by the Progressive governors of Niger state, Alhaji Abubakar Sani, Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi and Alhaji Badaru Abubakar including Hon. Minister of Justice/Attorney General, Abubakar Malami (SAN), former Senate President, Ken Nnamani and host of others who were in the state to witness the event.
Similarly, Governor Buni who also on Thursday Officially presented the party flag and broom which serve as the symbols of APC, said that the National Working Committee has officially dessolved the Ebonyi state working committee led by Hon. Eze Nwachukwu.
He maintained that the decision was in line with the party’s constitution and subsisting charter of the merger which usually surface whenever a sitting governor is crossing over to APC.
“Today is the a great day for APC family not only in Ebonyi state, Nigeria but all over the world at large.
“By the power confide on me in the constitution of our great party APC, it is my singular honour and privilege to formerly receive you and the teeming followers into APC.
“By this declaration your excellency you are entitled to all the privileges enjoyed by APC governors.
“As from today already a weaver has been granted to you and your teeming followers across the 13 local government areas of Ebonyi state.
“And as it is, it is part of our culture and tradition of APC and in agreement also based on the subsisting charter of the merger that whenever a sitting governor crosses over he automatically assumes the leadership of the party. That has been granted to you.
“Your excellency having said what I said regarding the leadership of the party, democratically to allow less than the majority to decide for the majority. So it is not out of place for APC to take this noble decision”, he explained.
He however announced Hon. Stanley Okoro-Emeagha commissioner in charge of Border Peace and Conflicts resolution as the Chairman of the 15 man caretaker committee of the state.
Governor Buni further charged Umahi to carry members of the state party along in his administration, essentially those old folks.
“Your excellency I know you are a man of justice, you will do justice to all manner of members of APC. There are other members of APC before you enter and I know you will carry them along in your government.
“Also, is to announce to you that the national caretaker committee has dessolved the state executive committee of Ebonyi state.
“By this announcement, I mean all the structure of the party both at the state and local government level and a new one will be inaugurated”, he explained.
However, Governor David Umahi while addressing the APC party leaders, noted that Ebonyi state has regained it freedom having dumped dictatorship Party.
