The curtains will fall on the 2023 edition of Betsy Obaseki Women Football Tournament (BOWFT) today as host Edo Queens and Bayelsa Queens lock horns in the finals of the prestigious pre-season football tournament.
On Monday, Edo Queens confirmed their superiority over debutants, Remo Stars of Ogun State with a resounding 3-0 victory in the semi-finals to set up the clash with arch-rivals Bayelsa Queens.
Goodness Osigiwe, with her exceptional skills netted two goals for Edo Queens while Suliyat Abideen added one more goal to secure the team’s place in the finals.
In the other semi-final match played at the UNIBEN Sports Complex, Bayelsa Queens managed to edge out Delta Queens 5-4 on penalties after a barren draw in regulation time.

The winner of the tournament is expected to go home with N7 million naira, while the second, third and fourth positions will bag N5 million, N3 million naira, and N1.5 million respectively.
The other nine participating teams that had exited the tournament received N750,000 each, among other consolation prizes.
The BOWFT is an initiative of Mrs. Obaseki in collaboration with private sector partners to groom and empower the girl-child and engender grassroots sports development in Edo State and Nigeria.
The third place match between Remo Stars and Delta Queens will take place at the UNIBEN Sports Complex while the finals and closing ceremony is scheduled to be held at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium Benin City.
Organisers have said at least 23 wives of serving and former governors will grace the closing ceremony.
