Fika, Lawan, Ajunwa, Daudu, 94 others on shortlist for SAN

The Legal Practitioners Privilege Committee (LPPC) has nominated Baba Dala Fika, Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan, Okechukwu Kingsley Ajunwa and Paul Daudu among 98 lawyers for the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).

Other lawyers nominated for the prestigious  rank include children of prominent Nigerian lawyers, Akinyemi Oluwole Olujimi, Paul Babatunde Daudu and Mofesomo Taye-Oyetibo; the Legal Adviser of the All Progressives Congress (APC), former SPIDEL chairman, Monday Onyekachi Ubani, and Roy Ogbonnaya Umahi Nwaeze.

A statement by the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court and Secretary of the LPPC, Hajo Sarki Bello, dated July 1, 2024, invited members of the public to the integrity and competence of the above listed shortlisted applicants.

She said, “Every complaint(s) must be accompanied with a verifying affidavit deposed to by the author before a Superior Court of Record in Nigeria or before a Notary Public and be in twenty (20) copies.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the publication of the names of the shortlisted applicants is not an indication of their success in the process.”

The 98 shortlist also has 11 academic including Professors John Agbonika, Osy Nwebo and Nnamdi Obiaraeri.

Fika, who is chieftain of APC and former legal adviser of the PDP, was a member of the APC National Screening Committee that screened and cleared Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to contest the 2023 General election.

He was enrolled as Solicitor and Advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria on November 3, 1988 and has been the Principal Partner of Bahama Chambers, Baba Dala & Co in Guzape, Abuja.

He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators of the United Kingdom; a Certified Capital Market Solicitor of Nigeria; a professional member of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria and a member of the Nigeria Business Forum. He is a specialist in Project Finance Practice.
