The wife of Kogi State Governor, Mrs Rashida Bello, has called on political, traditional and religious leaders in northern Nigeria to take urgent actions to tackle the menace of drug abuse among youths.
Speaking in Lokoja during the quarterly meeting of Northern Governors’ Wives Forum, Mrs Rashida Bello said the rate of drug abuse in some of the northern states in recent times as indicated by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) was a call for concern.
She appealed to all concerned stakeholders in the region to join hands in awareness campaigns on the dangers of drug abuse.
Mrs Bello said that she had been sensitising people of the state especially youths and women on the dangers of drug abuse through her pet project, Kogi Women and Youth Advancement Foundation (KOWYAF).
Also speaking, Governor Yahaya Bello urged women to give more attention to the proper upbringing of their children to ensure a better society.
Yahaya Bello said women had significant role in addressing the menace of drug abuse and other vices amongst youths.
He urged the governors’ wives to always serve as role models to other women in their respective states through virtuous lifestyle.
