Fight against import of illegal items on course – Customs CG

The Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Adewale Adeniyi, has said that the service, in collaboration with sister security agencies, has made significant progress in seizure of illegal items imported into the country.

Adeniyi made the disclosure in Abuja on Thursday while delivering a remark at a joint press conference by spokespersons of all security agencies which was hosted by NCS.

He stated that in the last 24 hours he was at the Onne Port in Rivers State to intensify the fight against the seizure of illegally imported arms, drugs and other items that were prohibited.

He said, “The customs, in partnership with other security agencies, is working around the clock to ensure that cargoes are thoroughly scanned and checked and the essence of the briefing is to ensure that Nigerians get adequate information as regards to efforts by the service and other security agencies.”

Also speaking, the spokesman of NCS, Abdullahi Maiwada, said that the service did not carry out market raids, adding that, “However, if there is credible intelligence of smuggled items, the customs can carry out a raid to seize those smuggled items.”
