There appears to be no respite for the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) as the world’s football government body, FIFA, has ordered the football federation to pay former Super Eagles Technical Adviser, Gernot Rohr, a whopping N157m in compensation.
It would be recalled that following poor performances by the Super eagles, the Franco-German tactician was sacked by the NFF in December 2021, a few weeks to the commencement of the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon.
To pacify the coach, the NFF also agreed to pay his salaries until the expiration of his contract in December 2022.
However, following breaches, the football tactician wrote to FIFA to protest his unlawful sack by the NFF.
According to him, his sack was a violation of his agreement with the football federation.
While ruling that NFF should pay the coach the said amount, FIFA also added that Nigeria would face dire consequences, if Rohr is not paid within 45 days.
“If full payment (including all applicable interest) is not made within 45 days of notification of this decision, the respondent [the NFF] shall be restricted from receiving a percentage of development funding, up until the due amounts are paid,” said FIFA.
Rohr had coached the national teams of Gabon, Niger and Burkina Faso before the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
