Bayelsa State government says it is yet to receive the total sum of N38 billion refund meant for the federal government projects executed by the state government as speculated by the people.
Governor Douye Diri, who said this during a monthly transparency briefing for the months of November and December, 2020, explained that the state was only able to get the sum of N27 billion out of the total sum as the discounted fund for N38 billion.
Represented by his Technical Adviser on Treasury and Accounts, Timipre Seipulo, he explained that the federal government has structured the refund process in the way that state have to wait for four to five years before they can access the full amount of the refunds.
But according to him, for states that want their funds, it has to be discounted and as such the 27billion naira that was announced by the government is the discounted amount from the 38 billion naira.
The state House of Assembly members were rumoured to have begun impeachment process against the governor for not disclosing the amount received as Federal Government refund for the projects carried out by the state government.
But, the Chairman, House Committee on Information, Tare Porri during a press conference last week dispelled the rumoured impeachment of the governor, saying the 6th Assembly is rather supporting Governor Diri to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people of Bayelsa State.
He said there is no way assembly would have demanded for share on the money meant for the development of the state.
