The Federal Government has said floodwater shortage may delay the commissioning of the 700 Megawatts Zungeru Hydropower plant in Niger State.
Eng. Abubakar Aliyu, Minister of Power, said this when he appeared before the House of Representatives Committee on Power, on Thursday.
The minister appeared at the lower legislative chamber of the National Assembly over the 2022 budget.
He said the 40 Megawatts Kashimbilla plant is being delayed as a result of the ongoing project of connecting the communities around the power plant.
Aliyu said while the project suffered delays due to insecurity in the area, there was also shortage of floodwater to fill up the dam for power generation due to insufficient rainfall.
The minister said the expected date for the commissioning is December 2021, if everything goes as planned but may go into the first months of 2022.
On the Kashimbilla project, he said, the communities affected by the power project were being connected to the grid, hence the delay in commissioning the project.
He said, the commissioning was also slated for December, 2021.
The minister said the second phase of the project which is the transmission lines to evacuate the power being generated is ongoing.
