FG warns against online Ponzi scheme again

The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has again warned Nigerians against participating in any online money doubling financial Investments scheme, especially via WhatsApp.

The agency in a statement on Monday, also refuted affiliation to or endorsement of any online Ponzi platform.

“The general public is advised to always verify if these firms have clearance from relevant government agencies mandated to license corporate investment advisers”, NITDA said.

According to the statement, the public is also advised to be wary of any quick wins schemes especially if it violates the Nigerian Data Protection Regulation.

Daily Trust reports that the fraudulent financial investment companies lure users by requesting that them to join their WhatsApp group.

Consequently, they access records of citizens’ phone numbers. These phone numbers can further be used in SMS scams as well as other various cybercrimes.
