The Minister of Water Resources & Sanitation, Professor Joseph Terlumun Utsev, has urged participants at the regional workshop on the sensitization of policymakers and end users on climate products and information from satellite data in the Niger Basin to propose relevant outcomes to facilitate the implementation of the various projects and programmes for the benefit of citizens of Niger Basin in view of the changing environment in the basin.
He made the call yesterday in Abuja while declaring open the 2023 session of the Regional Steering Committee (RSC) of Niger Basin Authority (NBA) projects and programmes.
The minister said the countries sharing the Niger Basin, made enormous investment efforts to preserve natural resources and promote economic and social development.
According to him, the member countries of the NBA took a decisive step, by showing genuine political will to further form cooperation around the Niger River.

He said, “This is an opportunity for me to commend the intellectual efforts of the member countries’ technical teams, under the coordination of the National Focal Structures (NFS).
“Representatives of users through their regional coordinating unit and certain national coordinating units. Your presence here in Abuja, despite your busy schedules, is an evidence of your commitment towards the development of our common heritage – the Niger River.
“In the course of the coming days, you will be reflecting on three themes: the Regional Steering Committee of NBA projects and programmes; and the two Regional workshops on the validation of the Legal documents of the Regional Climate Change Adaptation Fund and sensitization of Policy Makers and End Users on Climate Products and Information from Satellite Data for a better Water Resources Management and Adaptation to Climate Change,’’ he added.
