The Federal Government has been urged to set up a commission for the aged and the infirm, as Nigeria joins the rest of the world to mark the 2020 International Day for the Aged.
Founder, Amazing Grace Old People’s Home, Abuja, Mary Ifeanyi Obegolu, made the call at the weekend.
She said if established, the commission would cater for the needs of the aged and the infirm as well as address issues relating to their rights and privileges.
She condemned the spate of physical, psychological and sexual abuse the aged were subjected to in most parts of the country.
She tasked the legislature on legislations that would ensure consequences for perpetrators of such heinous crimes.
