The National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children Education has reaffirmed its commitment to reintegrate 10 million out-of-school children into classrooms over the next four years.
Dr Idris Sani, the commission’s Executive Secretary/CEO, stated this Tuesday during a hybrid webinar held in Abuja as part of the Global Action Week for Education, themed ‘Transformative Education’.
He said, “It is the government’s aim within the next four years to enrol 10 million Nigerian children back into school.

“Also, it is part of our mandate to encourage compassionate Nigerians to support disadvantaged individuals, as this is crucial for fostering peace.”
He said the issue of out-of-school children was not confined to northern Nigeria but is prevalent nationwide, citing examples even in places like Akwa Ibom, where children are found working in mechanic workshops.
Dr Sani underscored the urgent need for a comprehensive review and revitalization of the country’s educational policies, considering the current security challenges and their potential long-term repercussions.
Tunde Aremu, the Policy, Research, and Influencing Manager at Plan International, emphasized the necessity for concerted efforts from Nigeria’s political leadership to invest significantly in returning out-of-school children to classrooms and restructuring the education system.
