FG to commence healthcare package for serving, retired military personnel

The federal government said plans are underway to ensure that there is a total and complete health maintenance package for both serving and retired personnel of the armed forces of Nigeria including members of their family.

It also disclosed that it had identified and reviewed some challenges being faced by Defence Health Maintenance Limited, an agency serving as Health Maintenance Organisation (HMO) for the military.

The Minister of Defence, Abubakar Badaru, stated this in Abuja on Wednesday when he spoke at the 12th stakeholders’ meeting 2024 with military healthcare providers.

“As we are aware, the Government of Nigeria has promised all personnel, both serving and retired, adequate medical care for them and their families.

“Therefore, the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces of Nigeria set up a financing organisation called the Defence Health Maintenance Limited to provide financial cover for all serving and retired personnel.

“We send our personnel to battle and to protect the country. It is our responsibility to also protect them and provide the best medical care for them,” the minister said.

He noted that the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces of Nigeria would continue to ensure that they provide the best medical care for the personnel so that they can fight gallantly and with joy and happiness for our country.
