The federal government is set to build a 500-household Resettlement for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Zamfara State, the Federal Commissioner, National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons, Sen. Bashir Garba Mohammed, has disclosed.
Senator Mohammed who spoke during the distribution of relief materials to the Internally Displaced Persons in the state yesterday said Zamfara State has been chosen to form part of the housing development project which would complement the state government’s RUGA project.
The distribution of relief materials including food and non-food materials will benefit displaced persons in Anka, Gusau, Maradun, Shinkafi, and Zurmi Local Government Areas.
“The household resettlement will be fully equipped with facilities and livelihood support schemes.
“We are keen on moving this project to the next level in Zamfara State, and I would like to obtain your approval for the allocation of 50 hectares of land in a safe zone as follow up on our request earlier.
“The commission considers this a priority and we have gone far in this regard. We have received commitments from Borno, Katsina, and Adamawa States to grant us 50 hectares of land so that lives will be transformed and dignity restored,” he said.
