The federal government has said it is taking measures to harness technological innovation in the agricultural sector to ensure food security and create jobs.

The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr Mohammed Abubakar, stated this in Gombe in his opening remark at the North East validation exercise of the draft National Agricultural Technology and Innovation Policy (NATIP) 2022-2025.

Dr Abubakar said such measures were being taken to promote the export of agricultural produce, create jobs and boost wealth creation in the country, as well as strengthen the country’s capacity to feed its citizens.

Represented by the North East Director of the ministry, Malam Umaru Mohammed, the minister explained that the ministry organised the NATIP to facilitate a new policy framework to succeed the Agricultural Promotion Policy (APP) 2016-2020.

The Gombe State Chairman of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Alhaji Modibbo Nafada, commended the government’s move to improve the agriculture sector through technological innovations.
