The federal government’s gesture to provide Nigerians with free train rides during the peak travelling period of the end of year festive celebrations to ease the free flow of passengers and goods on our roads is highly appreciated.
This gesture has led to a drastic reduction in traffic congestion and road accidents in the affected routes the train operates
- Uzodimma recants, fails to name sponsors of insecurity in Imo
- Bandits kill 9 villagers, steal 250 rams, as troops kill 2 in Kaduna
However, the attention of the government is drawn to the urgent need to provide comprehensive train network services across Nigeria, mostly linking Abuja-Lokoja-Itape to the South and Eastern part of the country as the efforts to combat insecurity on our roads is being intensified by the relevant security personnel.
I wish to also encourage the private transport service providers to emulate and support the government efforts as part of their corporate social responsibility instead of using the festive periods as a profit-making avenue.
