The Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji has urged media professionals to objectively report scientific development and innovations to foster the country’s development.
He said the media plays a critical role in advancing the diffusion of innovation in agriculture.
He spoke at the 8th edition of the Open Forum on Agricultural Biotechnology (OFAB) Nigeria Media Award of Excellence in Abuja.
He said, “Science knows no borders, and the application of science, technology, and innovation is crucial for a brighter future for our country. I challenge the media to spotlight the promotion of local content.
“Despite facing limitations in resources and facilities, Nigerian scientists continue to innovate. When they succeed, we must publicise their achievements, encouraging them to keep pushing boundaries.
“We must avoid unnecessary criticism that discourages innovation and instead celebrate every breakthrough as a step forward in our national development.”
The Director-General of the National Biotechnology Research and Development Agency (NBRDA), Prof Abdullahi Mustapha called on the media to bridge the knowledge gap needed to promote biotechnology.
