FG tasks MDAs on Artificial Intelligence, digital technologies

The Federal Government has charged the nation’s Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAS) on coming the forth industrial revolution, by utilizing Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Thing (IoT), Blockchain (Distributed Ledger) Technologies and other emerging trend of digital technologies to catch up with global shift to e-government.

The Director General, Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR), Dr Dasuki Arabi, gave the charge on Monday in Abuja at the capacity building for Webmasters and Content Manager, organised by the BPSR and Ndukwe Kalu Foundation.

“As we coast-in to the forth industrial revolution, the emerging trend of digital technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Thing (IoT), Blockchain (Distributed Ledger) Technologies, Virtual Realities and Augmented Realities to mention but a few, there is a rapid global shift to e-government.

“This digital transition, has brought institutional websites to the center stage, whereby government business and services are getting to the point where to a large extend are only accessible online,” Arabi, represented by BPSR’s Head of Reform Coordination, Prince Kabiru Sarki Bello said.

He said that the event is part of BPSR and Federal Government’s vision to transform Nigeria’s public service to be among the first 20 in the world by 2025.

He said, “In 2018, the Bureau developed Federal Government Scorecard for ranking websites of MDAs to support implementation of Ease of Doing policy, Freedom of Information Act and National Open Government Partnership.

“Government website is considered central to the capacity of the MDAs to execute government policies and programmes. Consequently, the Bureau has been mandated to deploy the Scorecard on annual basis to facilitate regular evaluation of MDAs’ websites and ensure they meet best practice and standard.”
