The Federal Government is developing strategies to ensure that at least 25,000 jobs are generated annually from the biotechnology sector.
These direct and indirect jobs will be created along the value chain of biotechnology products which is being regulated by the bio-safety agency in the country, the Director General of the National Biosafety Management Agency (NABMA), Mr Rufus Ebegba said in a statement issued in Abuja yesterday.
Mr Ebegba said modern biotechnology under legal bio-safety regime has great potential to develop products, materials and living systems that can be used to expand the economy especially in the area of agriculture.
According to Mr Ebegba, analysis already concluded has indicated that about 25,000 jobs can be generated annually in Nigeria from the biotechnology sector.
The Director General noted that with an agency in place to regulate the sector, the biotech industry will be more vibrant.
