The federal government has flagged off a training programme for 1,850 youths in its Mobile Money Agents programme which it said will sustain the social inclusion agenda of the administration.
Speaking in Kano on Monday at the flag-off of the training, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouk, said the beneficiaries at the end of the training will be equipped with start-up packs which include a Point-of-Sale (POS) machine.
The beneficiaries will also get a fingerprint scanner, furniture (chairs, tables and umbrellas), as well as a capital of N20,000, after they have been registered with the Shared Agency Network Expansion Facility (SANEF) as Mobile Money Agents.
“The programme is designed to kit/tool unemployed youths and develop their competencies to operate as registered mobile money agents.
“This training will enable these beneficiaries to meet the minimum technical and business requirements for becoming mobile money agents and enhance their entrepreneurial competencies to successfully start and manage mobile money businesses”, the minister said.
She said the 1,850 youths targeted with the programme will be selected from the 36 states and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) who will promote financial inclusion within the communities, by providing financial services to unserved and underserved Nigerians.
