The federal and state governments have been urged to, as a matter of urgency, promote a sustainable environment.

The theme of the programme was ‘Only The Earth’.

Elesa also called on all groups in the society to take action to transform how the public consumes and manages the earth and its resources.

She said, “We urge the federal and state governments, financial institutions, businesses, international organizations, and other organizations with the power to rewrite the rules, open up new horizons, frame our ambitions as well as ensure transformative options are available, affordable and attractive to individuals.

“This can be done by leveraging the power and finance needed as well as putting in place the policies and infrastructure for sustainable living.”

In his address, the National Chairman of NIEE, Engr. S. M. Odukoya, said Nigeria had faced its own share of environmental challenges arising from air and land pollution, degradation and mismanagement, adding, “The impact of these on our lives is enormous and we can in our little way change the level of damage done to the environment.”
