The Conference of Benue Journalists (CBJ) which gave the warning while condemning Tuesday’s attack on Governor Gabriel Suswam by an armed group suspected to be herdsmen said in a press statement by its chairman, Emmanuel Iffer yesterday that President Goodluck Jonathan should urgently take steps arrest the situation.
“We totally condemn the aggression being perpetuated against the people of Benue, especially with the attack on the governor. President Goodluck Jonathan should as a matter of urgency, not only order the deployment of security personnel, but also ensure that the situation is brought under total control before it becomes too late,” the group said.
It further warned that failure to contain the attacks would constitute a serious security challenge for the country, considering the location of Benue and its proximity to the nation’s capital.
