The Federal Government of Nigeria says many of the roads being constructed across the country will last about 60 years before any rehabilitation “considering the quality of the works” done on various projects.

It also said the Loko-Oweto Bridge, connecting Northern and Southern parts of the country, would be ready for commissioning by December this year.

The Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, who was accompanied by Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola and Minister of Special Duties and Inter-governmental Affairs, George Akume, disclosed this to journalists on Thursday after inspecting the level of work done on the project site.

“We will continue to take you around other very interesting projects the government is embarking on.

“But what we are trying to showcase here is that we have taken loans, and we are making very judicious use of these loans.

“While these loans may have the lifespan of 20, 15 years, the roads we are constructing will have the lifespan of 50, 60 years and it will outlive many of us.

“Sukuk is an Islamic loan which does not generate any interest.

“It is part of the loan we’ve taken to complete this bridge.”
