The Federal Government on Thursday inaugurated the newly reconstituted members of the Board of Trustees of the Hadejia Jama’are Komadugu Yobe Basin (HJKYB) Trust Fund.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Minister of Water Resources, Engr. Suleiman H. Adamu, said the six riparian states of Bauchi, Borno, Kano, Jigawa, Plateau and Yobe, which share the basin came together to fashion out ways of finding solution to problems bedevilling the basin and created the Trust Fund to address Land and Water Resources Management challenges.
Adamu said: “In recognition of the critical role the Trust Fund was designed to play in complementing the activities of the ministry for developing the Water Resources of the HJKYB, as well as the peculiar nature of the basin, I decided to embark on the process of resuscitating the Trust Fund.”
He commended the active support of the governors of the six riparian states, who took up the challenge, came together and agreed to resuscitate the Trust Fund.
In his address, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Musa Ibrahim said that the Summit of the Riparian State Governors which first held from 15th to 16th May, 2017 in Jos, Plateau State was to reawaken the Trust Fund which the Governors took seriously to establish.
