FG releases oil vessel on plea bargain

The federal government at the weekend released a 26-member foreign crew crude oil vessel, VLCC, MT HEROIC IDUN, which was arrested by the Nigerian Navy (NN) for violating the country’s maritime law.

The vessel was arrested in August, 2022, its crew prosecuted by the federal government at the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on January 10, 2023.

Speaking to journalists shortly after releasing the vessel, Navy Captain Mohammed Adamu, the Commanding Officer, Navy Operating Base, Bonny, Rivers State, said that having fulfilled all the conditions of the plea bargain to the satisfaction of the court, the crude carrier was released to its owners, Idun Maritime.
