The Federal government has reassured the parents of Leah Sharibu, the lone Dapchi schoolgirl still under captivity that it’s doing everything possible to secure her release and of 2 other aid workers unhurt.
The minister of information, Alhaji Lai Muhammad gave the assurance when he led a high powered federal government delegation that visited Leah’s family on Friday in Dapchi town, Yobe state.
He said that government had already employed both formal and informal channels to secure her safe release.
“Mr President is not leaving any stone unturned to ensure the safe return of Leah Sharibu and all others in captivity.
“We can not disclose publicly some of the efforts being made to secure the release of Leah and others. But, we are appealing to them using both formal and informal channels to spare the lives of these innocent people,” he said.
He noted that the military are making supreme sacrifices to protect lives and property of people in the country saying “they should be commended”.
The minister, who was impressed by students’ turnout in Government Girls Science and Technical School Dapchi, where Leah was abducted, praised their resilience for returning back to continue education in the school.
In her response, the mother of Leah, Mrs Rebecca Sharibu, said the federal government delegation visit had renewed her hope and thanked President Buhari for his personal commitment to ensure her daughter’s freedom.
Rebecca, who spoke in tears appealed to the delegation to do everything possible to secure her daughter’s release before the deadline issued by the insurgents lapsed.
The Chairman Dapchi local government council, Alhaji Zanna Abatcha, said he is optimistic that the Buhari’s administration would secure the release of Leah and other aid workers safely, as it was done to the 105 released schoolgirls that had reunited with their families.
“We also appreciate the sense of belonging and assurance accorded to the community by the federal government,” he added.
Other members of the delegation are minister of state for Foreign Affairs, Khadijah Abba Ibrahim and minister of Women Affairs Aisha Abubakar.
