FG promotes 5,482 personnel of Nigeria Prisons Service

The Federal Government of Nigeria has approved the promotion of a total of 5,482 officers and men of the Nigeria Prisons Service, NPS.

During the decoration ceremony held at the NPS headquarters in Abuja on Thursday, the Controller-General of Prisons, Ja’afaru Ahmed said those promoted by the Civil Defence, Fire, Immigration and Prisons Services Board (CDFIPB) were those who passed the recently conducted promotion examination and satisfied other criteria set by the board.

In a statement by the NPS spokesman, Francis Enobore, the CGP charged the beneficiaries of the promotion to justify their elevation through value added service, noting that promotion naturally attracts higher responsibility which must be handled with care and devotion.

He debunked the claim by some officers and men of the Service that funds had been released to the Service to effect payment of promotion arrears.

Ahmed stated that the Federal Government’s policy on arrears was that particulars of promoted personnel, including their Bank details, are forwarded to the office of the Accountant General of the Federation who pays directly into beneficiaries’ accounts.

He said that no money was given to him to pay staff promotion arrears, stressing that he had no control over salary as well as promotion arrears.
