FG pledges to increase minimum wage

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, says the Federal Government is committed to improving the minimum wage of workers to boost productivity.

He said this in Abuja yesterday during the commissioning of a guest house project named after Comrade Hassan Sunmonu, the pioneer president of the Nigeria Labour Congress,

Mustapha, who was the special guest of honour, said the government was concerned about improving the welfare of public service and had paid the arrears of retired airways workers.

Wabba, who was elected for the first time in 2015 and re-elected in 2019, will officially exit the leadership of the NLC today at the 13th Quadrennial National Delegate scheduled to hold in Abuja.

Wabba noted that unionism is not only about contestations and agitations.

He said in the past, the organised labour thought it would be wise to be independent, hence the reasons for devising different means of generating incomes apart from relying external funding which at times can mar the union struggles.

The National Executive Committee of the NLC had elected the deputy president of the Congress, Joe Ajaero, as new president.
