A representative of Action Against Hunger Nigeria, Adama Soba, said the attendant effect of climate change was altering every stage in the water cycle thereby putting pressure on drinking water supplies, food production and increasing poverty values.
“When people talk about climate change affecting agricultural output, sea level rise, wildfires and extreme weather, they are all essentially water stories.
“It’s sad to note that the climate crisis not only affects drinking water resources but also fosters water-borne diseases such as malaria and cholera among others, which are expanding their geographical range,” she said.
Representative of the Country Director of WaterAid Nigeria, Evelyn Mere, underscored the need to advocate clean water as a basic human right and highlighted the inequalities that still exist in accessing sustainable water services.
