The federal government says there are plans to re-engage some of the retired senior military officers who are still agile in order to help the serving ones in the fight against insurgency and other criminalities ravaging the country.

The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, disclosed this during an interview with journalists at a dinner organised by members of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) 38 Regular Course Welfare Association in honour of the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, Saturday night.

Matawalle said Nigeria was blessed with talented military officers as well as other human and natural resources that can be made use of without going to foreign lands for help.

“I was just discussing with the CDS that we should re-engage them because they are not yet tired, it is just a matter of maybe retirement by age or maybe on the basis of constitution. Therefore, we believe that a lot of them have potentials that the government will be able to use,” he said.

On his part, the CDS said the event signified the acknowledgement of the collective achievements and sacrifice of the nation’s armed forces through the unwavering dedication of the brave men and women in uniform that had been able to safeguard Nigeria’s peace and unity.
