The Federal Government of Nigeria said Thursday that it is committed to create more jobs with the training of beneficiaries of high-pressure polyurethane foaming machines.

The equipment is a spraying and pouring machine under the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) component of stage II of the Hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) phase-out Management Plan (HPMP).

The Minister of Environment, Dr. Mohammed Mahmood, while handing over four foaming machines to beneficiary companies in Lagos, also watched a demonstration of how the equipment works.

He said the machines will help beneficiaries transition to use of environment-friendly methyl formulae (MF) as the foaming agent.

The Regional Director of UNIDO, Mr. Jean Bakole, said Nigeria and UNIDO, were protecting the ozone layer and supporting the industrialisation drive.

The Minister also said the Federal Government is committed to phasing out Ozone Depleting Substance (ODS) to mitigate the impact of climate change.

While inaugurating the System House at Vitapur Nigeria Limited in Lagos, a foam chemical producer said waste recycling which the firm was promoting would reduce pollution, check environmental degradation and help preserve the environment.

Vitapur would phase out the use of HCFC chemical by January 2021 while producing foam, he noted.
