The Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, yesterday ordered the new management board of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund to screen the National Youth Service Corps certificates of all the workers of the NSITF and ascertain their authenticity.
Speaking at the inauguration of the board at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, he said this was to redeem the image of the Fund.
It would be recalled that a former NSITF boss, Micheal Akabogu, was sacked over a forged NYSC certificate.
Ngige said the NSITF and the ministry could not afford to get bad publicity again because of avoidable situations especially among workers.
He said, “In order to maintain, protect and promote a very viable and thriving organisation, I have four major tasks before the new Management Board of the NSITF.
“To screen and vet the academic and NYSC certificates of National Service of all staff in the Fund. To ensure the full implementation of the NSITF Restructuring Report.”
The chairman of the board, Emmanuel Nwosu, said his team would weed out those with forged academic credentials.
The new Managing Director of the NSITF, Maureen Allagoa, promised accountability.
