The Federal Government has named a new Acting Director-General for the Nigeria Institute of Social and Economic Research (NISER), Ibadan as the erstwhile Director-General, Professor Olufemi Taiwo formally bowed out of the organization at the expiration of his four years tenure of office.
The newly-designated Acting Director-General, Professor Olakunle Odumosu who, until his elevation was the most senior Director at NISER doubled as the Director in charge of the Social and Governance Policy Research Department of the Institute. He will serve in the new capacity until the federal government formally announces the substantive DG for the institute.
Speaking during the handing over ceremony held at the institute, the new Acting Director-General, Professor Odumosu, paid glowing tributes to the out-going DG whom he described as “a true democrat and transparent leader who always allowed all committees at NISER to work and deliberate on matters before taking decisions, not allowing himself to be the sole decision maker”. Professor Taiwo, in a valedictory speech called on the federal government to continue to make the best use of outputs from policy research institutes like NISER “with a view to taking correct decisions that would lead to national development”.
