The Federal Government yesterday inaugurated the implementation committee on the National Transit Insurance Scheme and National Anti-multiple Taxation Scheme for agricultural produce.
The committee, comprising members of Nigeria Police Force, the DSS, the military, the Association of Local government of Nigeria, the Association of Agricultural Product Dealers and other relevant government ministries and agencies, would work together to clear the roads of unnecessary check-points, multiple taxations and other illicit activities affecting haulage of agricultural goods.
The scheme will provide insurance for all agricultural commodities on transit from the production point to the market.
Managing Director, Nigerian Agricultural Insurance Corporation, Folashade Joseph, said the effect of these challenges put pressure on the prices of food items in the market.
