The real-time monitoring technology involves gathering information and data through periodic or continuous measurement in the field to provide a view of current conditions.
The federal government had last year, awarded the contract on real-time monitoring technology to an indigenous company, Riverman Technology Limited, for implementation by the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), with the mandate to provide real-time online data monitoring on facilities and production.
At a stakeholders forum in Lagos last week, the Director of the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), Mr Andrew Obaje, explained that the objective of the project is to migrate from the current state of dependence on data provided by the operators to a state of certifying these data online, real-time, from any of the agency’s locations.
He emphasised that the purpose of the workshop was to build cooperation and move the project to the desired level, adding that it was expected that the contractor would expose participants to real-time monitoring specifics and challenges.
Speaking, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum Resources, who was represented by Mr Oliver Okpara Ojiako, DPR’s Head of Gas, reiterated that the project is coming at a time the petroleum industry is passing through unprecedented reforms.
