FG launches health promotion policy to reduce diseases’ burden

The Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire on Monday launched the National Health Promotion Policy (NHPP 2019) and its ancillary strategic documents.

He said the policy documents would provide guidance for the empowerment of individuals, families, households, groups and communities.

He said they would provide appropriate information on helpful habits, steps and behaviours to maintain good health and reduce the burden of communicable and non-communicable diseases, as well as inform on the negative impact of certain practices.

Also launched were the National Strategic Plan for Health Promotion 2020-2024, the Knowledge Management Guideline for Health Promotion 2020-2024, the Counseling Flip Chart on Key Household Practices and Counseling Flip Chart on Family.

Also yesterday, Ehanire inaugurated a ministerial committee for provision of health insurance services for the elderly and retirees in Nigeria aimed at improving access to healthcare and promote the wellbeing of ageing citizens through provision of health insurance.
